May 2 – O’Fallon, MO – The 12u Bombers opened their 2014 season under the lights at Westhoff Field #3 on Friday night against a familiar opponent in the Coyotes. The teams traditionally play to tight games, yet after the first inning of tonight’s opener history didn’t appear to be repeating itself.
Trailing 6-0 after the top of the 1st, the 12u Bombers chipped away at the Coyotes lead. Ben B. settled into a nice rhythm and held the Coyotes scoreless in the 2nd and 3rd innings, giving the Bombers an opportunity to shift momentum. After a 6 run inning of their own in the bottom of the 3rd, the Bombers held a 10-6 lead.
The Coyotes answered with 3 runs of their own in the top of the 4th inning and it could have been one more but the Bombers made a heads up play on a past ball catching the Coyotes attempting to score the tying run.
Unfortunately the Bombers couldn’t hang a crooked number on the board in their half of the 4th and took a slim one run lead into the final inning. The Coyotes would get 3 in the top of the 5th to edge out a 12-11 victory.
It was an exciting night of baseball and a sure sign of great things to come from the Bombers 12u squad.
